As this isn’t a typical topic of conversation how about we take on a chronic source of pain that leaves most men suffering in silence. I’m talking about Prostatitis. Tough to spell and even tougher to cure – for some. It seems more men suffer from this problem than an enlarged prostate. Which is saying something since the Social Security set deals with that a lot.

To help shed some light on what if we look at some frequently asked questions about prostatitis?

QUESTION: Clue me in on the symptoms.

ANSWER: To be brief you’ll notice severe groin pain, waking up at night a lot to go, and other problems urinating.

QUESTION: Isn’t this a problem for older guys?

ANSWER: Often, but not always, it is older guys. But this strikes men of all ages.

QUESTION: So how much should I worry about this? I mean, how likely is it I’ll get it?

ANSWER: More than you’d think. In fact, as many as half of all men may suffer a bout of prostatitis during their lifetime. So odds are you will likely experience this first hand. Something to look forward to, I know.

QUESTION: I’ve heard this is a signal you’ve got prostate cancer, no?

ANSWER: Nope. No truth to that.

QUESTION: What’s the causes of this?

ANSWER: Bacterial infection is behind some cases. And the treatment is to take antibiotics. Some say what you eat, your diet and such is a trigger. Sometimes the cause is undetermined. Making it a medical science mystery.

QUESTION: Any idea what cures this?

ANSWER: Some change their diet. Others get relief from the herb quercetin and it’s anti-inflammatory properties. Sometimes therapy includes antibiotics like cirpro. Others find that cranberry juice helps. Others like dried cranberries.

QUESTION: Great, taking pills is my kind of solution.

ANSWER: Drugs? My how we love easy answers to pesky problems. Problem is it’s not quite as easy as it sounds. Your prostate isn’t plumbed to make fighting bacteria easy. So you need to be diligent about taking antibiotics making sure you take them daily for as long a prescribed. Which means you could be looking at four weeks or longer. As treatments go, you’ll be at it awhile.

QUESTION: So prostatitis isn’t a problem for women then?

ANSWER: You’re right. It’s not.

Anyway if you’ve got a throbbing pain your nether regions accompanied by a sudden increase in the how often the need to go strikes, perhaps you would be well advised to take this up with your doctor. Because you too may have prostatitis.
